What is e-liquid or e-juice?
E-liquid, also called e-juice and vape juice, refers to a solution of vegetable glycerin (VG), propylene glycol (PG), flavouring, and nicotine if you so choose. These ingredients are present is various quantities in various brand of e-juices.
When heated adequately in an e-cigarette or vape, e-liquid will turn into vapour through a process called atomization.
What is vegetable glycerin (VG) and propylene glycol (PG)?
Vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol are the two main components of e-liquid, and are the compounds that create the vapour, or “cloud”.
Vegetable glycerin (VG), (also called glycerol or glycerin) is a simple polyol compound. It is a colorless, odorless, viscous liquid that is typically produced from plant, palm, soy, or coconut oil. Glycerol is sweet-tasting, has fewer calories than sugar, and is of low toxicity.
Propylene glycol (PG) is an organic compound. It is a colorless, nearly odorless, clear, viscous liquid with a faintly sweet taste that is very low in toxicity. It is a derivative of propylene oxide, which, in turn, is a derivative of propylene, and is used as an ingredient in many household products and cosmetics. It is also used widely in medicine, such as in asthma inhalers. Propylene glycol is mainly used in e-cigarettes for its temperature regulating, water retaining, and dissolving/ bonding properties.
Which e-liquid flavour works for my device?
Any e-liquid that is specifically made for e-cigarettes can be used in your device. However, e-liquids with a higher level of vegetable glycerin (VG) is denser and will be slower to wick into your coil. For pen-style e-cigarettes or devices with a wattage capacity of 50w or below, it is recommended to use a VG ratio of less than 60.
Which e-liquid flavour will help me switch to vaping?
It is very common for new vapers to initially start with an e-liquid flavour that is familiar (e.g., tobacco or menthol), as but this is not required whatsoever. Any flavour, including fruits and desserts, can come with or without nicotine, and at various concentration levels to suit your needs. Vaping is only suggested as an alternative for current smokers.
Which flavour is best?
Ultimately, this is determined by your personal preference and palate. Think about flavours you enjoy eating or drinking. These preferences will often correspond with e-liquid flavours that would appeal to you. Smell is a big factor for many others.
